As the subject says, I’m wonder “Why isn’t more Japanese and Korean drama series aired more on international TV?” (With a few exceptions being some channels in USA and Hawaii.)
Asian dramas in doesn’t exist on Swedish televison, none at all.
First of all, what options do we have.
The internet, of course, which is nice.
Let’s say that you really like some drama series and would like to have them yourself, then you have to buy the complete DVD box from either YesAsia, CD Japan or any other online store, add to that shipping and handling costs.
I have personally done this with one drama series, being Koukou Kyoushi (1993).
In addition, many of the Asian dramas doesn’t have English subtitles, and some of those who do are poorly translated.
This I believe is one of the reason fans of Asian dramas translate dramas themselves.
American and UK dramas are constantly being aired internationally.
Of course there is the language issue, but with popularity of Japanese culture and Korean Hallyu wave and so many people nowadays studying both languages, the translation shouldn’t be a problem.
I would really like to hear what Japanese and Korean people has to say about this.
Is it just that the companies earn more money by selling DVD boxes? Have they thought of trying to export their TV dramas? Don’t they want to, is that the reason?
