About Battle Royale

First of all, thank you for reading.

Battle Royale is a book written by Koushun Takami. It tells the story of 42 students who are kidnapped, sent on a desert island and forced to kill each other off until only one of them remains. The time limit is 3 days and if, at the end of the third day, many people are still alive, they are automatically killed by the explosion of the special necklace that all the students are wearing.

Each year, new classes are selected. The parents and other adults have no right to protest even if they are aware of what is happening to the children.

Why did the politicians decided to do this, you may ask? Japan has many problems such as the kids that boycott school and the unemployment rate that’s really high. The bigwigs think that the youth are disrespectful and without any future. They established the ‘‘BR Act’’ (or ‘‘Battle Royale Act’’) and created that twisted game in order to gain control over the population.

Don’t worry; you will learn more about battle royale later in the story. Just keep in mind that, at the beginning, the victims aren’t aware of what’s going to happen.
