“All right, now you listen and you listen good.” Brianna said placing her hands on her hips. The young guy just smiled and raised his eyebrows. “I just got this job yesterday and I can’t help by feel that Taylor and Isaac are already wondering how cut out for it I am. I have no place to live at the moment so I need this job. Not to mention the fact that I am a total wreck with this being my first day and all. I have dealt with guys like you for most of my life and normally I can handle it. I’m gonna tell you now though. I am not going to be fired because some guy can’t keep to himself. So you just back off buddy. I don’t want to hear no pick up lines and you keep your distance or, in the words of Dolly Parton in the movie “9 to 5″, I’m gonna get my gun and change you from a rooster to a hen with one shot! Don’t think I can’t do it!”

“Ahh, Brianna, you’re here.” Isaac said as they met in the hallway.

“Good morning. I hope I’m not too early.” Brianna said.

Isaac smiled and shook his head. “Good Morning. No you’re not too early. Come with me, I want to introduce you to my brother.”

Brianna walked beside Ike down the hall and into another office.

“Tay, this is Brianna Dennison. The girl I told you I hired.”

Taylor Hanson smiled and extended his hand. “Hello Brianna. I’m Taylor.”

Brianna shook Taylor’s hand and said “Nice to meet you.”

Isaac said “Tay, I have a meeting in about five minutes so I thought you could show Brianna her office and she needs to meet Jessica. Can you do that?”

Taylor licked his lips and nodded. “Sure, I’d be glad to.”

Isaac slapped Taylor on the back and said “Great, thanks. Brianna, hon, you’re in good hands. I’ll see you later.” Brianna waved at Ike as he walked out.

“Well, welcome to the madness!” Taylor said raising his arms in the air.

Brianna laughed and said “Thank you.”

Taylor ran his hand through his hair and said “Okay, let’s go hunt Jess down.”

As they walked out of his office Taylor said “You’ll be working more with Jessica than anyone. Don’t worry, she gets along with everybody, and she’ll be grateful that she has some help now.”

Brianna smiled as they walked down the long hallway. The two began chatting like old friends. Brianna found out that Taylor was 27 and his daughter, whom was named Beatrice but the family called Trixie, was three.

Taylor still had the light brownish-blond hair and blue eyes that had made him so gorgeous in his teens. His hair was sort of layered, short in the back while somewhat long in the front and on top. His ‘bangs’ were to the middle of his face and Brianna noticed right away that he still had the habit of running his hand through his hair, brushing it out of his eyes. He still had a youthful, but slightly stressed, look to his face and was tall and thin, like Isaac. Brianna had also taken a quick notice to the way his eyes sparkled when he smiled. He spoke quietly and had a softer voice than his brother’s.

“Jessica, I want you to meet Brianna. Brianna, this is Jessica Mitchell, our sister.” Brianna shook Jessica’s hand as the girls greeted each other. Jessica spoke nearly as soft as Taylor. she wasn’t very tall. (Brianna guessed her to be around five-five or five-six.) She had blue eyes the same color as Taylor’s and very long, straight blond hair that fell just past her waist. She had a kind face and friendly smile.

“Well, it’s about time!” Jessica laughed as Brianna heard Taylor tell his sister that she would be helping her. “I’m so overloaded all the time. Brianna, you are going to be a life saver.” Jessica smiled. “I have to get in there though before Ike fires me.” Jess said a quick “Bye” as she quickly walked down the hall past Brianna and Taylor.

Brianna smiled at Taylor as he said “Well, let me show you around some more.” They walked from room to room where Taylor would explain what each was for. He also showed her where the bathrooms and cafeteria was and told her that the recording was done on the basement level. “And this is where you’ll be working most of the time.” Taylor said as he led Brianna into a office.

There was a desk with a computer, fax machine, phone and a small chair in the corner and on the other side of the room was a row of file cabinets and a copy machine. There was a large window straight ahead from the door and a long table in front of it.

“You can arrange things however you want in here. You can put any kind of decorations on your desk or file cabinets but nothing on the walls.” Taylor said.

Brianna looked around for a minute. “This is really nice.” she said glancing at the light blue curtains and carpet.

“Well, I’m glad you like it.” Taylor smiled. “Now, you know how to use a phone I’m sure.” Taylor said walking over to the desk.

Brianna laughed. “Yes.” she replied.

Okay, the fax machine is simple. You just press this and then the number to send one. Getting one you just take it once it comes through. Your computer has no Internet it’s just used for filing and billing, keeping schedules and appointments straight.” Brianna nodded and smiled when Taylor looked up at her from the computer. “All right, you’re here from 8:00 a.m. until you’re done with your work. We can never say when we’re going to leave.” Taylor smiled and rolled his eyes. Brianna laughed a little but was surprised. “Anyway, you’ll get an hour for lunch starting between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.” Tay and Brianna laughed again. “Okay, well, I have to get down stairs and run a sound board so I’ll leave you to get settled and arrange things. Someone will be in when the meeting is over and show you what to do. Until then, relax and take it all in. I’ll catch ya later.” Taylor shook Brianna’s hand and walked out, shutting the door.

Brianna put her purse on the desk and immediately began to move the furniture. She was doing a lot of thinking and had gotten completely lost in her own thoughts by the time she’d moved the last empty file cabinet.

She heard a knock on the door and, thinking it was Taylor or Isaac, she said “Come on in.” She didn’t look up right away from studying the copy machine.

“Hey, looks nice.” Brianna turned around to see a young guy standing at the door. She hadn’t seen him before. He was just slightly taller than Ike and Tay with more of a muscular build. He had short, thick brown hair and a youthful face with a child’s grin and friendly brown eyes.

“Who are you?” Brianna asked without introducing herself first.

The young man said “Well, no one’s asked me that in a long time. You modeling that dress for Sears or something?” he asked grinning and shoving one hand into his pocket.

Brianna crossed her arms and took a deep breath as she watched the young man.

“You’re one hell of a firecracker.” he finally said walking toward her.

Before he could speak again, Isaac came into the office and said “Wow, nice job Brianna. Oh, I see you’ve met our brother Zac. He’s the other CEO of the company. Zac, this is Brianna Dennison. She’s taking over Andrea’s job.” Isaac said to his younger brother.

Brianna just lowered her face into her hands with a whine.

Zac laughed and said “Nice to meet you Brianna. I, uh, hope that you like working here.”

Brianna raised her head and placed her hand over her chest. “I am so, so sorry. I just didn’t know. I would have never said that…”

Zac waved his hands in the air. “It’s all right. Honest mistake. The whole Sears model thing, it was a compliment. I should have introduced myself when you asked who I was.” Zac smiled and said “Well, I’ll be on my way.” He started to walk out of the door and then turned back “Oh Brianna, after your face turns back to it’s natural color instead of the bright shade of red, I need you to make one hundred copies of this.” Zac handed her a piece of paper with some kind of ad for a temporary guitar player.

“All right.” Brianna said with a little laugh.

Zac walked out and shut the door.

“Hmm, okay.” Ike said raising his eyebrows. “I’m gonna ignore all of that. I need you to make some phone calls when those copies are made. Here’s the names and numbers. I just need you to confirm some reservations. All the information is written down here.” Isaac handed Brianna a folder of a few loose papers and then opened the door before continuing. “After that, Jess will probably need you so just go to her office. Taylor showed you where it was right?”

Brianna nodded. “Yes, he did.”

Isaac smiled “Okay, I’ll leave you to it.” He walked out and shut the door.

Brianna made the copies of the ad and stacked them neatly on the corner of her desk. Then she sat down and started making the phone calls to confirm some plane and hotel reservations for a recording artist that was coming to work with the guys.

Afterwards, Brianna stepped out into the hall and saw Avery. “Excuse me, Avery?” Avery turned around quickly causing her long, light brown hair to sling to one side. Her brown eyes twinkled with her smile.

“Yeah. What’s up?” Avery asked, walking toward Brianna.

“Am I supposed to take these to Zac?” Brianna asked, holding up the copies of the ad for a new band member.

“Yes, just take them to his office. Fourth door on the left.” Avery replied.

Brianna walked down the hall and knocked on Zac’s door.

“It’s open!” She heard him yell and slowly walked inside. “Yeah, whatcha need?” Zac asked when he looked up from his computer screen.

“Here’s the copies.” Brianna said.

“Oh, great. Thanks.” Zac said taking them and laying them on his desk.

“Zac, I just want to apologize again for what I said earlier.”

Zac laughed and replied “It was my fault really. You’d think my wife would have taught me better than that.” Brianna smiled. “This is her. Don’t she look like a loud hard ass?” Zac said with a chuckle as he handed Brianna a framed photo of a young girl with a calm and kind expression on her face.

In the picture, she was standing by herself next to the porch railing.
She had long, straight brown hair and dark blue eyes. She had an average build and a friendly smile.

“She looks nice.” Brianna said with a smile.

“She hates that picture.” Zac laughed.

“There you are.” Taylor said from the door.

Brianna put the photo back down and said “Well, see ya around.” Zac nodded and raised his hand. Brianna walked out and asked, “Is there something you need Taylor?” Taylor walked down the hall, motioning for Brianna to follow.

“Not really,” he said as they walked into his office, “I just wanted to know if you had plans for lunch. I have to take some demo copies over to a friend’s house for him to listen to and I just wanted to know if you wanted to go and then we could grab some lunch.”

Brianna hesitated her answer. She didn’t want to say no but this was unexpected and she wasn’t completely comfortable with the idea.

Sensing her hesitation Taylor said, “I mean, you don’t have to. I just thought…” He laughed. “Tell you what, I’ll be down front in about an hour. If you wanna join me, you just meet me down stairs by Helen’s desk, all right?” Brianna nodded before they were interrupted by Jessica.

“Brianna, could you come here? I need you to do something for me really quick.”

Brianna said “Yes, of course.”

As she started to walk out, Taylor said, “Brianna, one hour, downstairs. No pressure, no obligation. Just a causal lunch.” He smiled.

Brianna smiled back and said “Got it.” She wanted to at least let him know she was thinking about it instead of a straight “No’,” but she didn’t want to appear too eager, even though she’d already decided to accept the offer.
